(August 3, 2022 5:51 PM) Two of the leading tournament winners in Jackson golf history are this year’s inductees into the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame.

Mike Brockie and Nikki (Franklin) Weeks will become the 69th and 70th members of the hall of fame when they are inducted in ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Sharp Park Golf Course. The public is invited to the induction ceremony at no charge.

Brockie was the dominant player in Jackson for nearly a decade. Between 2010 and 2017, he won 16 major local titles and was the Player of the Year six times, including a recordsetting four in a row. From 2008-2017, he never finished lower than third on the Player of the Year Honor Roll.

Overall, Brockie has captured 21 local championships, ranking him seventh on the all-time list. He is one of only four players to have won all six of the major tournaments currently on the local schedule.

Brockie is the only seventime winner of the Jackson Masters. He won that tournament four consecutive years (2010- 2013), just the second time that feat has been achieved in any Jackson tournament. He holds the 18- and 36-hole records in the Jackson Masters.

Brockie has won the City Championship twice and has been in the final match seven times, tied for third most alltime. He has won the Spring Thaw five times, second all-time, and has a record 19 top-5 finishes in that event. He has also captured the County Open four times, the Lyle Ambs Memorial twice, and the Tournament of Champions once.

As the boys golf coach at Hanover Horton High School, Brockie has had his team qualify for the state meet eight of the last 10 years, with a Division 3 state championship in 2018 and four other top-5 finishes. He was the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association coach of the year in Division 3 in 2018.

Weeks was a top player in the Jackson County Women’s Golf Association in the 1990s, winning nine JCWGA titles to rank her third all-time. She captured the Medal Play title seven times, including four straight years from 1993-96, both records at the time.

Weeks took the Match Play Championship in 1995 and 96, one of nine players to ever repeat as champion of that event. In 1995, her victory over Jan Poupard in the finals ended Poupard’s threeyear run as champion. Weeks has also won the Country Club of Jackson women’s title several times.

As a high school player at Lumen Christi, Weeks was named to the all-state Super Team in 1991and 1992. She played on two teams that won state championships and two that finished runner-up. She was medalist in the 1991Class B-C-D state finals and finished second in 1992 to lead the Titans to the state championship. She went on to win three letters in golf at Michigan State University (1995-96-97).

“The Jackson Golf Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to bring these two fine Jackson golfers into the Hall of Fame. They are both so deserving to be recognized for their golfing careers.” Said Elaine Crosby, Chairperson of the Jackson Golf Hall of Fame Committee.
