(April 25, 2020 9:04 AM) Following Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order yesterday, most Jackson area golf courses have now opened under new restrictions.  The Executive Order is effective immediately and runs through May 15.

Golf courses will be enforcing social distancing and golfers are limited to walking only, no carts are allowed.

The Grande Golf Club is among courses setting cups so that there will be no contact with the cup liner or flagstick.  No rakes, ball washers, water coolers, or benches are on the course to prevent the touching of common surfaces.

Most Golf courses are allowing groups of 4 or less and are asking people to maintain a minimum of 6 feet between yourself and all other people.

Golfers are reminded to avoid any gatherings in the parking lots or practice areas.   Golf courses with food service, if offered, are limited to takeout.

A survey of area courses today shows most courses are offering special rates.  At the Grande, greens fees are $25 for 9-holes and $35 for 18-holes.

At the Cascades Golf Course, General Manager Phil Fischmeister told JTV News they opened up yesterday and have several tee times booked for this weekend.  The Cascades rates are $18 for 9 holes and $27 for 18 on Saturday and Sunday.  Monday thru Friday rates are $12 and $18.  Twilight discounts begin after 2 PM on weekends and 6 PM on weekdays.

Fischmeister said they are selling pre-packaged food and beverage for takeout only.  Call the Cascades Pro Shop at 517-788-4323 for additional details on pricing or to schedule a tee time.

The City of Jackson will reopen Ella Sharp Park Golf Course to golfers on Monday, April 27. Questions about the reopening should be directed to the golf course office at 517-788-4066. All other City of Jackson recreation facilities remain closed until further notice.

Golf courses remind you if you are feeling sick, or feel unsafe participating in golfing activity, please stay home. Courses are asking all customers take ample precautions to ensure their safety, but also to allow their staffs to safely maintain the facility and to serve you.   All courses will be strictly enforcing the guidelines and anybody that fails to follow the rules will be asked to leave.
