(August 13, 2021 11:07 PM) Yes, it was her first rodeo – this year.
But Hanover-Horton High School junior Dana Olund would like to try some more.
The barrel rider from Horton competed in the Twisted P Rodeo at the Jackson County Fair on Friday night.
She finished the three-barrel configuration in just over 22 seconds. The winning time was approximately 15 seconds.
“We took it (the curves) a bit wide … but it was our first rodeo together, so I didn’t have too many expectations from her,” Olund said about her performance with Jynx – her horse.
“I thought we did pretty well.”
The is the first rodeo of the season for Olund, but she would like to compete in others.
“A lot of rodeos you can pay the entry fees and be in it,” Olund said. “Others you have to qualify for.”
Olund, 17, has been riding since she was age nine.
The two-hour show at the Fair on Friday featured calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc and bareback bronc riding, bull riding, and barrel racing.
The bulls won the battle on Friday the 13th as none of the riders were able to stay on for eight seconds during the bull riding competition.
