(April 12, 2022 10:54 AM) Residents of Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties who have household income at or less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for up to $650 to pay past-due water bills through the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) at Community Action Agency.

“The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) has provided critical funding for CAA to work with municipal water service providers and help low-income residents avoid shutoffs for past-due balances,” says CAA Director of Community Programs Laura Reaume. “Qualifying households should contact the CAA office in their county of residence to apply for assistance.”

Funding for LIHWAP is expected to be available until September 2023, or until the funds are depleted, so residents are encouraged to call the Community Action Agency in their county as soon as the need arises to determine eligibility and apply for assistance.
