Risner Shoots 3-Under-Par At R.W. Mercer Golf Event

(July 29, 2020 9:09 PM) Leslie High School senior Cannon Risner continues to have a solid summer campaign on the golf course.

Risner shot a 3-under-par 69 at Calderone Golf Club on Wednesday as part of the R.W. Mercer Jackson Junior Golf Tour event.

He claimed first place in the boys’ 17-18 age bracket.

Napoleon golfer Hunter West shot an even-par 72 to claim second place overall.

The tournament was the seventh of 10 scheduled events for youth golfers in the Jackson area. Tournament play will continue on Monday at Clark Lake Golf Course near Brooklyn.

More than 60 competed at Calderone in various age brackets.

Amanda Melling and Sophie Whelan tied for first place in the girls’ 16-up age bracket with 88s. Kamryn Shannon shot an 89 to finish one stroke behind.

Logan Bentley won the girls’ 13-15 age bracket scoring a 98 for 18 holes.

Sydney Finch shot a 53 and Lauren Langston carded a 55 in the girls’ 13-up nine-hole event. Olivia Rhodes won the girls’ 12-under nine-hole event shooting a 58.

In the boys’ 10-under nine-hole event, Maddox Mulnix shot a 42 and Sam Swihart finished with a 44.

Eli Bowman won the boys’ 11-13 nine-hole event with a 49, and Joey Ortiz and Andrew Parrott shot 50s.

Charlie Saunders carded a 91 for 18 holes to take the top prize in the boys’ 13-14 age bracket. Jack Murray claimed second place in the age bracket with a 93.

Reed Murray took first place in the boys’ 15-16 age bracket finishing with an 82. Brady Applegate and Bentley Coon shot 87s – good for second place in the age bracket.
