(October 12 2020 6:52 PM) Spring Arbor University’s Christopher Banfi (Oakville, Ontario) and Samantha Tracey (Davison, MI / Davison) have earned Crossroads League Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

For the second straight week, Banfi was recognized as the league’s Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The Oakville, Ontario native allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of action – a penalty kick – and collected five saves. His work in goal helped the Cougars tie Indiana Wesleyan and score a 3-0 shutout victory over a previously unbeaten Huntington squad.

Banfi, who also received national Player of the Week accolades a week ago, ranks first in the Crossroads League with three clean sheets this season. He also ranks second in the conference in goals against average (0.96), allowing six goals in 560 minutes of action this season.

The SAU men’s soccer team travels to Taylor University (2-6-0, 2-5-0 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Tracey was named the league’s Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, earning the honor for the first time in her career. She posted back-to-back shutouts last week, picking up four saves in a 2-0 defeat of No. 14 Grace and adding another save in the Cougars’ 4-0 win over Huntington.

Tracey has recorded four shutouts this season, which ranks second amongst Crossroads League goalkeepers. The Davison, Michigan native also ranks second in the league with a 0.31 goals against average.

The women’s team hosts Taylor (4-3-0, 3-3-0 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
