Michigan Center High School golfer Kamryn Shannon leads the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state golf tournament following a 2-under-par 70 on Friday at Forest Akers East Golf Course.

(October 15, 2021 5:32 PM) Michigan Center High School golfer Kamryn Shannon is one solid round away from repeating as a state golf champion in Division 4.

The senior shot a 2-under-par 70 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final round on Saturday.

Shannon birdied six holes on her round shooting a 2-under-par 34 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back nine at Forest Akers East Golf Course.

The Cardinals are ninth as a team with a four-man total of 380.  Elly Trefry shot a 100 and Kylie McKee and Riley Brown both shot 105.

Lumen Christi is third as a team with a four-man total of 348. The Titans trail Lansing Catholic Centra (335) and Montague (336) heading into the final 18 holes on Saturday. 

Ashley Hilderley shot an 81 and is ninth individually and Caroline Hilderley finished with an 83 to lead the Titans. Anna McClure shot a 91 and Michaela Hauer finished with a 93 for Lumen Christi. 

Hanover-Horton is 17th as a team with Holly Miller shooting a 95 on Friday.

Columbia Central golfer Logan Bentley is fourth individually following a 79 on Friday.

The top 10 individuals earn state medals and all-state consideration. The top two teams earn trophies and medals. 

Division 3

Division 3 state finals: Western High School is 13th as a team following the first round of the MHSAA Division 3 state golf finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course on Friday. The Panthers shot a 391 led by Brune Savage with a 91 and Sydnie Redovich with a 92. The tournament concluded Saturday with an 18-hole final beginning at 10 a.m. 

Division 2 state finals: Natalie Kulka of Jackson is 13-over par after 16 holes at Bedford Valley Golf Course. The tournament may be delayed due to weather as all of the players are listed on holes 16 or 17 on the Michigan High School Athletic Association app iWannamaker. The Division 3 and 4 tournaments in East Lansing have posted final scores while the Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments – both on the west side of the state – have not as of 4:50 p.m. Rain is currently reported on that side of the state. Players tee off tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the final round of the respective tournament.
