A The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a FLOOD WARNING for Grand River At Jackson affecting Jackson County and Grand River At Lansing affecting Ingham County.  Widespread rainfall is expected Monday morning through Wednesday morning. Rain amounts between 1 and 3 inches are expected across all of Southern Michigan, with locally higher amounts possible. Snow melt will also continue. This will cause rises on rivers, creeks, and streams, and allow water to spill into low-lying areas along rivers.

In addition, rainfall and warmer temperatures will increase the likelihood for river ice to break up and travel down stream. Large pieces of ice floating in the river may later pile up as they travel downstream, particularly near bends in rivers. This could create ice jams and increase the threat for flooding immediately upstream.

FLOOD WARNING  for the Grand River at Jackson from Tuesday evening until further notice.  At 8:30 PM Sunday the stage was 9.6 feet.  Flood stage is 14.0 feet.  Minor Flooding is forecast.  The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Tuesday before midnight and continue to rise to near 14.5 feet by Friday morning.  Impact, at 15.0 feet:    Expect moderate flooding of residences and businesses along High Street, Lewis Street, and Losey Street. High water would disrupt traffic and damage residences.  Flood history:   This crest compares to a previous crest of 14.5 feet on Jun 25 2000.
