The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) honors Albion, MI with the receipt of a Big Read grant for 2015. This is a tremendous accomplishment as Albion is now one of only 75 communities in the nation to receive this award.
‘The Big Read’ NEA Grant will support a series of community events and activities that celebrate and advance reading throughout October 2015.
The Bid Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
Jess Roberts, an Albion College English professor and Big Read committee chair, will be leading this event throughout the summer and into Fall with the assistance of the Big Read Planning Committee and 2015 Albion College graduate, Madeline Drury.
Their goals are to empower youth and encourage community dialogue by having local middle school and high school students lead book discussions.
The book chosen for this year’s Big Read is A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin.
Locally, the Albion Big Read is sponsored by the Linda Kochinski Fund, Albion Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council, Rotary Club and the Albion-Homer United Way. LIVE UNITED!
