Superintendent Search Committee Makes Site Visit

The Jackson Public Schools Superintendent Search Committee make a site visit to Vestaburg Community Schools today.  Current Superintendent Dan Evans updated viewers on the process to select his successor.  Current Vestaburg Superintendent Jeffrey Beal, a Jackson native, is the leading candidate and the committee will make its report to the board on Thursday.  Other guests:  Monica Moser, President, Jackson Community Foundation;  Jim Dolsen, Superintendent, Jackson Christian Schools with Patti Huff, Counselor;  Center Stage Jackson "Harvey" cast members Mike Reed and Melissa McElhone;  Julie Brunzell, Managing Director, Michigan Shakespeare Festival.

Columbia Bond Update

Columbia Schools Superintendent Pamela Campbell reported on the progress following the approval of bond proposals in November.  Planning is underway to replace heating systems, roofs, infrastructure and technology improvements.  Residents will be given several opportunities for input over the next few months.  Construction should begin by summer.  Students Cameron Daniels and Cara Guernsey shared their participation in Pajama Day by wearing PJs on today's show.  Other guests:  The Blazer News publisher Alan Wade with webmaster Neil Hardcastle;  Denise Owens, Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival;  Linda Sisco, Administrator of Spring Meadows I and II;  Sue Chapel and Amy Kinder, Cascades Manor House.

Hogans scores 42 in loss

SPRING ARBOR, MI – In the history of Spring Arbor University men's basketball, there have been 20 games when a player scored 40 or more points.  The latest was today when senior, Rob Hogans scored 32 of his game high 42 points in the second half against Bethel College.  Unfortunately for the Cougars, it was enough and Spring Arbor fell to the #20 ranked Bethel Pilots 80-69. The Cougars started the game in dominating fashion with a 12-2 lead after the first seven minutes and still lead after the first half 28-26 after a late first half rally by the Pilots. After the first 20 minutes of play, Thomas Starks led Spring Arbor with 11 points and Rob Hogans added 10 points in the first half. Bethel, ranked #20 in the NAIA polls was on a mission in the second half and started the half with a 17-5 run after six minutes and a 25-9 run through the first 10 minutes of the second half and trailing the Pilots 37-51 and a 14 point deficit.
