Lumen Christi’s Khari WIllis Named JTV Sports “Player of the Year”

By Mike Moore, JTV Sports There were a number of things Rich Karasek called Khari Willis, a handful of terms he used to describe one of his most dynamic players Lumen Christi has ever known. Electric. A winner. A competitor, just to name a few. But there was one phrase that seemed to stand out, and maybe most accurately define one of the Titans’ best athletes to suit up in the green and gold. “When you consider what he was able to do on the football field and the basketball court,” Karasek said of Willis, “he’s a once-in-a-lifetime guy.” With endorsements like that, and a winter full of highlights and special play, Willis was an easy choice for the JTV Male Player of the Year. “As a player, he was the guy that pushed the pace of the game. He could explode down court at any time,” Karasek said of his senior guard. “He made everyone around him better.” The latter part of that comment may have been the most telling, and the one that told the story of what made Willis so instrumental to everything Lumen did. Frost Back to Back Program Visits

The Jackson Public Schools' Frost Elementary French Back to Back program visited JTV today.  12 students from Lille, France along with their Frost hosts toured JTV and shared their experiences of their 2 week visit to Jackson.  Frost teacher Donna Thomas along with Frost student Alexandra Arndt were joined on the set by EJM-Lille teacher Jean-Charles Collard and his student Alix Descamps.  Twelve Frost 5th graders will be traveling to Lille in May.  Other guests:  State Representative Earl Poleski, Steve Tucker, Executive Director, Michigan Theatre;  Video highlights of the Grass Lake Spring Business Expo;  Northwest Red Crushers Wrestling Club coach Aaron Beach with athletes Bode Brown, Trent Holden and Bryce Graham;  Kaydee Fish, Jackson YMCA.

Jackson High to Host Jazz Festival

Jackson High School will be hosting the State Jazz Festival, Wednesday, March 25 in the Jackson High School Auditorium.  Joel Shaner, Director of Instrumental Music, along with student musicians Noah Spencer and Brett Trombley will be participating with the JHS Jazz Band performing at 6:30pm.  The festival begins at 2:30pm and all are welcome.  WKAR is profiling the Jackson band for an upcoming episode of "Forte".  Other guests:  Summit Township Supervisor Jim Dunn;  Laura Schlecte, city council representative;  Park Supervisor Jim O'Brien, Hayes State Park;  Dave DeBaker, entertainment previews.

Susan B. Anthony Award Winners

The Jackson Women's History Council has selected Angela Machnik and Nancy Miller as this year's recipients of the 2015 Susan B. Anthony Award.  For their leadership on women's equality issues, the two were honored at a dinner program last month along with the presentation of essay contest winners from area schools.  Other guests:  Builderwalk with General Materials;  Rock Mangus and David Schwartz, Mission of Hope Cancer Fund;  Alicia Barry, Director of Development, Food Bank of South Central Michigan;  "Gears, Beards & Beers" with Lyman Robertson, Cindy Pape and Coley Kennedy;  Gabby Whitaker, Yanet Morales and Devon Payne, Jackson Area Career Center's Hair and Fashion Show winners;  Ethan Smith, Napoleon High School's Jeremiah's Gift Dinner.
