Bikers on Falling Waters Trail - JTV file photo The Jackson County Administrator/Controller’s Office has announced the receipt of two donations from the Hurst Foundation. The first donation is for $35,000 for a bike rental system to be installed on the Falling Waters Trail. This system, which could be ready as early as this spring, will provide opportunities for locals or out-of-towners to have a bike available at a trail head for a low reasonable cost. The exact location of the rental station has not been determined, but will most likely be at either the Weatherwax Road or Teft Road trail head. The second donation of $15,000 from the Hurst Foundation is designated for the County Trail Connector Project, which will connect the Sparks Park (home of The Cascades) to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Equity Trail. This project will provide a walking and bike path of approximately half a mile and with a trail head off of Kibby Road. The project is fully funded through other donations from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Weatherwax Foundation, and the Jackson Community Foundation and will proceed to engineering. The County is deeply grateful for the partnership of the Hurst…

Brown says Northwest basketball team will get better with time By Mike Moore Staff Writer Jackson – In each of the first two games of the season Justin Brown got glimpses of what his team could be, and what it is right now. Talented and inexperienced. Two traits that often go hand in hand, which can be good and bad. “There are going to be nights we play very well,” Brown, the Northwest boys hoops coach, said. “And on other nights, the inexperience is going to show. We have a lot of guys playing together for the first time, and that’s a very big adjustment.” The Mounties found their stride in the second half of last season, closing the regular portion of the schedule with eight-consecutive wins before falling in the playoff opener to end with a 13-8 record. But the playoff game was the final four eight seniors. The 2015-16 squad has just three varsity veterans, features seven players that were on the JV a year ago, and two transfers. As for the afore mentioned glimpses Brown got in the first two games, well, Northwest led Harper Creek in the…

Parma, MI - Associates at Michigan Automotive Compressor, Inc. (MACI) are counting down the semi-trucks leaving the building loaded with brand new automotive air-conditioning compressor units. Sometime in just the next three days MACI will ship our 100 millionth product. 100,000,000 is a milestone of monumental proportions for the manufacturer on the west side of Jackson County, MI, which just celebrated its 25th Anniversary of Production this year. Over the past 25 years, MACI has added 3 major building expansions until it is over 1 million square feet; grown from 250 to 1,050 associates (employees) and added many millions of dollars of new manufacturing equipment, most notably new production lines and cells for the new variable-type compressor which is quickly growing in popularity in the automotive industry. Earlier in the year, associates submitted estimates of when the actual compressor will ship in an informal competition. The person who proves to have the closest guess will receive a Michigan get-away weekend package to celebrate. “100 million is a measure of the value added by associates to the metal and materials we use in each compressor unit,” said MACI’s President Todd Ishikawa. “It is the quality focus of associates that is responsible…
