Rain Showers Ending, Cooler Temperatures

It will remain cool today under an overcast sky. High temperatures will not make it out of the 40s, when normal highs are in the middle 60s. Rain showers will gradually taper off and end today as the upper low responsible for the rain pulls away to the east. High pressure will build in for tonight which will allow skies to clear and readings to drop into the 30s. Patchy frost is expected area wide tonight into Wednesday morning. Our reprieve from the rain will be short lived as our next system takes aim on Southern Lower Michigan for Wednesday night into into Friday. Today:  Rain showers likely until midday, then a chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent. Tonight:  Mostly cloudy in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Patchy frost overnight. Lows in the mid 30s. Dobies Announces Candidacy for Mayor

JTV file photo by Ryan Kerwin Derek Dobies, 6th Ward City Council member and Jackson Vice Mayor,  today announced his candidacy for Mayor of Jackson. “I believe in a brighter future for Jackson. As Mayor, I’ll be new, energetic leadership fighting for progress towards that vision,” said Derek Dobies in a news release. “We can't slow down, we shouldn't settle for the status quo. I'm not scared of rolling up my sleeves and challenging the good ol’ boys establishment to secure progress for our community.” Dobies was first elected to the 6th Ward City Council seat in 2011, and reelected in 2015. He has also served as Vice Mayor since 2013. Dobies highlighted several areas he has focused on as Council member, including the blight elimination and demolition program, economic development, road construction and public safety. The fundraising for CP Federal City Square and the Glidden Parker Mural restoration was spear-headed by Dobies.  In the release, Dobies says he personally worked to raise over $435,000 in grants and corporate sponsorships. Consumers Energy Names Rejii P. Hayes as EVP & CFO, Tom Webb Named Vice Chairman

CMS Energy and Consumers Energy announced today that Thomas (Tom) J. Webb is named Vice Chairman, after 15 years as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer where he played a vital role on the team which led CMS Energy’s financial turnaround and growth. Webb also announced plans to retire Nov. 1, 2017. In his role as Vice Chairman, he will be responsible for duties determined by Chief Executive Officer Patricia K. Poppe. Rejji P. Hayes, former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of ITC Holdings, Inc. (ITC), will succeed Webb as CMS Energy and Consumers Energy Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on May 1, 2017.  Webb served in the CFO role since joining the company in 2002. For the past 15 years, he helped shape the CMS Energy strategy to deliver consistent financial results. Windy with Falling Temperatures

The passage of a cold front through the area around sunrise will end the threat of thunderstorms and flooding. We may have a brief peak at the sun and temperatures will quickly rise into the 60s. However the cold air finally surges in this afternoon with gusty winds. Temperatures will fall back into the 50s with frequent rain showers. The gusty winds, frequent rain showers and temperatures in the 40s will continue into Tuesday afternoon. The system finally moves out of the area Tuesday night. That will clear the skies and result in possible frost Wednesday morning. Today:  Showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Temperature falling to around 58 by 5pm. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
