Family Night at the Cascades.  Ian Stewart, jazz guitarist and singer has taken Michigan by storm with his incredible acoustic guitar and voice that captures the grit and beauty of his homeland, Wales.    This is the final Wednesday Family Night of the season.  Admission is $10.00 per family. Patti Poppe to Receive Bridge Builder Award

Equality Michigan announced today that Patti Poppe, president and chief executive officer of CMS Energy and Consumers Energy, will be awarded the Bridge Builder Award at their Fall Reception on October 5, 2018. The Bridge Builder Award is given annually to leaders who demonstrate an ability to speak to unlikely allies in the pursuit of LGBTQ equality. In a news release, Equality Michigan stated, “As a leader in the energy utility industry, Ms. Poppe has not only transformed the culture within Consumers Energy, but she has actively advocated to end discrimination in the public sector as well, setting a standard of excellence for corporate executives.” “Those of us fighting for fairness in Michigan owe a debt of gratitude for Ms. Poppe’s leadership in helping to make our state safer and more equal under the law,” said Stephanie White, Equality Michigan’s executive director. “While other leaders may shy away from taking a public stand against discrimination, Ms. Poppe moves forward in putting her vision for a strong Michigan into action.” A representative from Dow Chemical Company will present the Bridge Builder Award to Ms. Poppe. “Dow is proud to play a leadership role in advancing workplace equality,” said Jim Fitterling, chief…

American 1 Credit Union Presents $100,000 Gift to Jackson School of the Arts Capital Campaign

American 1 Credit Union and Jackson School of the Arts “go way back.” According to Jackson School of the Arts Executive Director Kim Curtis, “American 1 Credit Union was our first Corporate Sponsor. It began when American 1 chose us as the benefactor for the funds raised by their high school talent competition called American 1 Teen Idol.  Our partnership began in 2007 and has continued to grow since then.” Kim Curtis and Martha Fuerstenau, President and CEO of American 1 Credit Union, jointly announced this morning that American 1 is making a $100,000 contribution to the Jackson School of the Arts Capital Campaign for a Dynamic Arts Center. The $3 million-dollar campaign will give the Jackson School of the Arts the room it needs to grow by breathing life into the iconic Masonic Temple in downtown Jackson.  Jackson School of the Arts, which provides nearly 100 lessons in the arts per week to 1,500 children and teens annually, has entered into a partnership with the City of Jackson to lease the historic Masonic Temple for its new home.
