Jackson College Presents Annual Alumni and Service Awards

Jackson College presented awards and hosted a celebratory dinner at the annual Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni and Jackson College Distinguished Service Award Reception on April 25.   At the end of each traditional academic year, Jackson College recognizes local leaders who are making an impact in their community and at the College.    The Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Dr. Frederic Slete, class of 1978.  The Crockett award honors an alumnus who has gone above and beyond in their career and community. It is named in honor of the 1934 Jackson Junior College graduate who went on to become Michigan’s first African-American obstetrician/gynecologist who was the director of the Crittenton Hospital clinics, headed the health care committee of New Detroit, Inc., and organized neighborhood health programs. Dr. Crockett was also the first woman in the 74-year history of the Christmas Seal Campaign to be president. Dr. Slete has been making people smile in Jackson for more than 30 years! Bradley, Napoleon mows down Jonesville

Napoleon High School pitcher Collin Bradley struck out 20 of 22 batters faced during a game Thursday night against Jonesville   By Jeff Steers JTV Sports   Along about the fifth inning, members of the Jonesville High School varsity baseball team were celebrating foul balls against Napoleon High School pitcher Collin Bradley. Yes, Bradley was that good. The senior pitcher struck out the first 15 JHS batters in a row en route to a 20-strikeout performance Thursday night at home. Bradley finished by striking out 20 of the 22 Jonesville players for a 2-0 win in the opening game. Adam Garcia backed that up for Napoleon with a strong pitching performance in game two for an 11-2 win in game two. The Pirates are now 12-0 on the season and ranked No. 10 in Division three in the latest Michigan High School Athletic Association baseball poll. Bradley used his 88-mile-per-hour fastball and a killer curve ball to stump Jonesville. His split-finger pitch was also working. “I have coached high school baseball for 15 years and he is one of the two best pitchers I have coached,” NHS Coach Jeff Mohr said. “He has hit double-digits in strikeouts in every game…

April 26 Three Men and a Tenor presents “Salute! A Tribute to Veterans, Service Members & First Responders”.   Great pop vocal music, quick-witted humor and overall likeability make THREE MEN and a TENOR a unique show experience that cannot be matched. The group has over 3,000 performances together, a national touring schedule and has opened shows for national legends like Jay Leno and The Beach Boys; performed the national anthem to start the NASCAR FireKeepers 400 on Fox Sports 1, and starred in its own national PBS-TV special.   3MT was voted "The Best Entertainment in Michigan" 4-times in 2017, 2016, 2011, and 2006, and was runner up in 2018.  THREE MEN and a TENOR has regularly sold-out shows at performing arts centers, theatres, and festivals and fairs for over 26-years with a powerful blend of vocal harmonies and feel-good music for all ages.
