New COO Joins Jackson YMCA Leadership Team

The Jackson YMCA has announced Fred Hauser has joined the leadership team as its Interim Chief Operations Officer. Hauser is retired from the YMCA of the USA where he served in a Vice President’s role; he also has been a successful CEO in Missouri and Wisconsin and has experience in health-care administration. Fred Hauser is working with Jackson YMCA CEO Shawna Tello to increase organizational effectiveness and build capacity to benefit the Y now and in the future. Tello has become increasingly more engaged with fundraising and collaboration and will be responsible for overseeing the construction of and transition to a new YMCA facility in downtown Jackson. Considering the CEO’s expanded duties, the Board of Directors recognized the need for an additional leadership presence at the Y. Hauser, who expects to serve in this interim position for six months to a year, has assumed responsibility for Y operations while the Y seeks a permanent COO. “We are all focused on building a new Y and creating a healthy living campus in Jackson. American 1 Credit Union Named “Outstanding Credit Union of the Year”

The Michigan Credit Union League has announced that American 1 Credit Union has been named Outstanding Credit Union of the Year for credit unions of their asset size.  Outstanding Credit Union of the Year award winners are selected based on achievement in community involvement and service, financial strength and performance, and advocacy and public relations. Finalists are reviewed by the MCUL Awards Committee, who propose the winners to the MCUL Board of Directors to be ratified. In a statement on their website, MCUL President/CEO Dave Adams said, “One of the most enjoyable opportunities for an association is its awards process. Spring Arbor University to Host Robotics Competition

Hundreds of Michigan high school students pioneering the next generation of robotics will visit Spring Arbor University (SAU) on March 5-7 to compete in Jackson County’s second annual FIRST in Michigan District Robotics Competition. The Star Wars-themed competition is sponsored by Consumers Energy and is the first event of its kind for SAU. The FIRST robotics competition is a three-day event that is free to the public and located in the McDonald Athletic Center at SAU. “SAU is excited to partner with FIRST Robotics and Consumers Energy to bring high schoolers from across the state to this event. We see this as an excellent opportunity to help promote robotics and STEM programs,” says Ron Delap, Dean of the School of Engineering. “These students are building and competing with machinery that makes them stand out from their peers in our state and across the nation.
