(January 11, 2021 12:21 PM) Henry Ford Allegiance Health and the Jackson County Health Department are working together to coordinate community vaccination efforts. With the announcement by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) on Wednesday to expand immunization efforts across the state beginning today, the two organizations are actively preparing to meet the expanded demand for the vaccine within the community. The groups identified next by the State of Michigan for vaccine priority include those 65 and older and some essential frontline workers including police officers, first responders, frontline state and federal workers, jail and prison staff, and pre K-12 teachers and childcare providers. Here in Jackson, vaccination of the first group, 1A, is still underway. “The amount of vaccine received in Jackson County has not allowed us to provide a vaccine yet for all who want it in those groups,” said Rashmi Travis, Health Officer for the Jackson County Health Department. “The need to target the appropriate groups and ensure that the correct amount of supplies and vaccine are available means everyone receiving a vaccine will need to have an appointment.” The MDHHS press release acknowledged the logistical challenges facing health care administrators, adding, “It is…

(January 11, 2021 12:09 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,093 positive cases (cumulative), and 182 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 31 new cases since Saturday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 11, 2020:  6,325** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 6:50 PM January 8, there are 4,283 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 531 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 7 AM January 5, there 47 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). (January 10, 2020 10:03 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 6:50 PM January 8, there are 23,041 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 4,283 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.    Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 6,357 active cases. In Jackson, there are 1,678 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center,  at 1,213 Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 26 at Duane Waters Health Center, 849 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, and 517 at Parnall Correctional Facility.   All numbers are cumulative. Among staff, there are a total of 3,147 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.  In Jackson, there are 174 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 152 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 96 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse, 3 at Jackson Regional Office, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 100 at Parnall Correctional Facility.  All numbers are cumulative. (January 9, 2021 3:35 PM) Michigan reported 2,706 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 519,082. Michigan is reporting 222* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 13,354. *The deaths announced today includes 207 deaths identified during a Vital Records review.
