Michigan Reports 4,326 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 508,736

(January 6, 2021 3:35 PM) Michigan reported 4,326 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 508,736. Michigan is reporting 51 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 12,918.  State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 12/30/2020): 363,611. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 7,886 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 164 Deaths

(January 6, 2021 1:40 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 7,886 positive cases (cumulative), and 164 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 95 new cases since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 6, 2020:  5,915** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:00 PM December 30, there are 4,130 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 508 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 7 AM January 5, there 47 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Michiganders Over Age 65, Some Frontline Essential Workers Can Receive COVID-19 Vaccine Starting Monday

(January 6, 2021 1:34 PM) To help reach the state’s goal of vaccinating 70% of Michiganders over age 16 and bring a quicker end to the COVID-19 pandemic in Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) officials today announced the state is moving to a new phase of vaccination on Monday, Jan. 11. MDHHS is moving forward with vaccination of Michiganders age 65 and older; frontline essential workers including police officers, first responders, frontline state and federal workers and jail and prison staff; and preK-12 teachers and childcare providers. To date, 80% of deaths have occurred among those age 65 and older. In addition to vaccinating Michiganders who are 75+ in Phase 1B (Phase 1B, Group A), MDHHS is accelerating to vaccinate individuals 65-74 years old (Phase 1C Group A). MDHHS is accelerating implementation of vaccination of individuals 65-74 years due to concern around disparity in life expectancy by race/ethnicity for this group (Phase 1C, Group A).    “The more people we can get the safe and effective vaccine, the faster we can return to a sense of normalcy,” said Governor Whitmer. “I urge all seniors to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible…

Limited Spectators to be Allowed at Remaining MHSAA Football, Girls Volleyball Tournaments

Updated with football finals locations and times. (UPDATED January 6, 2021 5:51 PM) Limited numbers of spectators will be allowed for the final rounds of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Football and Girls Volleyball Tournaments, per approval received today from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Football teams will receive 125 tickets, to be divided among game participants for purchase by immediate family members via the GoFan digital ticketing platform. Volleyball teams will receive 50 tickets, also to be purchased by immediate family via GoFan. Spectators in different households must be spaced out by six feet and maintain distancing at all other times including arrival and departure from the game facility. Spectators also must wear fact masks at all times.
