Single Lane Closures on Jefferson Road Begin Wednesday

(February 16, 2021 6:02 PM) The Jackson County Department of Transportation will have single lane closures on Jefferson Road between US-127 and Hyde Road beginning on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 for tree removals, weather permitting. This project will also include the installation of signs, and new pavement markings and is anticipated to be complete this summer. JCDOT was awarded an MDOT safety grant to make this project possible. Jefferson Road has a history of fixed object crashes, and removing trees in the right-of-way will help make the road safer for the motoring public. No detour will be posted and motorists should seek an alternative route.

Salvation Army Announces Partnership with Meijer in Hunger Relief Program

(February 16, 2021 5:02 PM) The Salvation Army of Jackson County has announced a partnership with Meijer to provide relief to local families facing food insecurity through the retailer’s customer-driven hunger relief program, Simply Give at the 3333 E. Michigan Avenue Meijer store. “With community demand for our food assistance up by 50% since the COVID-19 pandemic began last March we are placing a priority on meeting this need. To do this we rely on the generosity and compassion of our many community partners to help us meet this need. No individual or family in our community should ever have to go hungry. We are very grateful for Meijer’s partnership,” said Major Jose Tamayo, Corps Officer. Each Meijer Simply Give campaign replenishes the shelves of more than 250 food pantries in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The program encourages customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to a local food pantry in the store’s community. The facility located at 3003 Airport Highway, Toledo, OH, was increased in size to 123,000 square feet. The expansion includes additional metal processing capabilities, double the storage capacity for sheet product inventory as well as increased plate and long products.
