Gov. Whitmer Announces Expansion of MI Classroom Heroes COVID-19 Grants

(March 1, 2021 3:34 PM) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks today announced the expansion of the MI Classroom Heroes COVID-19 Grants to include a new grant program for Great Start Readiness Program (GRSP), Head Start, adult education and young adult (ages 18-26) special education classroom teachers.   “The MI Classroom Heroes COVID-19 Grants are just a small token of our gratitude to educators for going above and beyond during the pandemic,” Governor Whitmer said. “When COVID-19 hit, teachers worked around the clock to quickly transform from in-person teaching to remote instruction to ensure that their students could continue learning. It is simply the right thing to do to expand these grants to include all specific program teachers across the state.”   The GRSP, Head Start, Adult Education and Young Adult Special Education Teacher COVID-19 Grant Program enables these specific program teachers to receive up to $500 for extra hours worked and costs incurred during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic last spring.   A state budget appropriation signed by Governor Whitmer at the end of 2020 provides $2.5 million to make specific program teachers eligible to receive a MI Classroom Heroes COVID-19 Grant, who were not eligible under previous programs.   "The Classroom…

Michigan Reports 1,569* Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 589,150

(March 1, 2021 3:15 PM) Michigan reported 1,569* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 589,150. Michigan is reporting 12 COVID-19-related death today with the state total at 15,534. **Note on cases (03/01/21): Today’s daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since Saturday, February 27th. Over the two days, Sunday and Monday, the average number of new confirmed cases is ~784 per day. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 2/26/21): 541,258. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 9,255 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 217 Deaths

(March 1, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 9,255 positive cases (cumulative), and 217 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 32 new cases since Saturday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of March 1:  8,559** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 5:30 PM February 26, there are 4,545 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 582 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 8 AM February 25,  there are 11 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The cumulative numbers posted on Monday will include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  Epicurve data and Township maps are also posted on Mondays by 3:30 PM. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their…

MDOC Cumulative Report: 4,545 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 582 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff

(March 1, 2021 11:51 AM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 5:30 PM February 26, there are 25,210 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 4,545 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.    Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 532 active cases. In Jackson, there are 1,813 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center,  at 1,217 Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 30 at Duane Waters Health Center, 950 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, and 535 at Parnall Correctional Facility.   All numbers are cumulative. Among staff, there are a total of 3,631 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.  In Jackson, there are 192 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 153 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 118 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse, 3 at Jackson Regional Office, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 110 at Parnall Correctional Facility.  All numbers are cumulative. There have been a total of 138 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 30 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.    Testing…
