Jackson County Cumulative Report: 15,768 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 296 Deaths

(August 31, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 15,768 positive cases (cumulative), and 296 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 45 new cases since yesterday’s report. As of August 30, there are 19 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19.  Cumulative recovered, as of August 31: 14,693** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. I-94 Travel Advisory for Lane Closures

(August 31, 2021 8:34 AM) The Michigan Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for I-94 in Jackson County. The following closures will be in place on I-94 between Cooper Street and Airport Road. Portable changeable message sign (PCMS) will display the following messages: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 The westbound I-94 right lane will be closed for temporary ramp paving. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 The westbound I-94 right lane will be closed for temporary ramp paving. 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 The westbound I-94 right lane will be closed for new ramp openings at the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound US-127/M-50 and the southbound US-127 ramp to westbound I-94.

Michigan Center Defeats Defending State Soccer Champs

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 31, 2021 7:34 AM) Michigan Center High School proved they have a pretty good football team on Monday. Only this team uses a round ball, not a pigskin. The Cardinals soccer team defeated the defending state champions from Lenawee Christian 2-0 at home. With the win, the Cardinals are 4-0 on the season having outscored their opponents 26-3.  “We have a lot of seniors who have played defense for us since their freshman season,” Coach Ray Schaife said. “They are going a great job back there.” Goalie Michael VanRiper agrees as he made 10 saves – most of them being easy attempts. “They make it so easy on me,” VanRiper said. “I can’t begin to tell you how many times I yell thank you (to them) for being proactive instead of reactive when a play develops for the other team.” Michigan Center lost 3-1 to Lenawee Christian in 2020. Lenawee Christian went on to win the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state title.…

Extreme Dodge Jackson County Scoreboard for Aug. 30, 2021

Boys soccer Clinton 3, Columbia Central 2: The Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0 but battled back to tie the game in the second half.  Grass Lake 4,  Leslie 0: Wesley Good, Henry Black, Gus Vitale, and Tyler Chizek scored goals for the Warriors. Jack Easterday notched his second shutout of the season. Grass Lake is 3-2-1 on the season.  Jackson Christian 10, Stockbridge 2: Jackson Christian improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.    Michigan Center 2, Lenawee Christian 0: Alex Hunt and Carter Kosmet scored goals for the Cardinals (4-0). Michael VanRiper earned the shutout in goal for MCHS with 10 saves.  Girls golf Lenawee Christian IGL jamboree: Columbia Central High School finished second (226) and Concord was third (241) at Wolf Creek Golf Course. Logan Bentley shot a 41 and Emily Fox shot a 59 for Columbia Central. Faith Moore led Concord with a 58 and Sidney Marshall and Hannah Stimer shot 60s.  Grass Lake Invitational: Grass Lake High School won the best-ball event with three scores totaling 287. Addisyn Rudd and Paris Khan of East Jackson took home first place medals at the Grass Lake Best Ball Tournament at Hills’ Heart O’ the Lakes Golf…
