Jackson Police Department Announces New Recruit Program

Police recruits Antoinette Lewis and Nikolas Rincon.  JPD photo. (August 26, 2021 8:27 AM) The Jackson Police Department today announced a new program designed to overcome recruitment difficulties by removing barriers and making an investment in the training of recruits. This month, JPD is sending police recruits Antoinette Lewis and Nikolas Rincon to the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College. Once they’ve completed training, the recruits will be offered the next available patrol officer openings with the department. JPD has previously sponsored members from both its cadet and reserve officer programs through police academy training. Elmer Hitt, the Director of Jackson Police and Fire Services, says police agencies across the country are having challenges filling officer positions. He says this may be due to a declining interest in law enforcement careers. “It is our hope that this new recruit program will help to provide yet another opportunity for us to fill our officer vacancies, and keep our department well-staffed in order to provide a level of service the community deserves,” Director Hitt said. “Our recruits have a lot of interest in…

Explore the Night.  7:30 PM.  Join Ella Sharp Museum and the Dahlem Center for a wonderful night under the stars! Let’s explore and use our night senses. The goal for our night walk led my Dahlem Naturalist Educator, Carrie Benham, is to help people enjoy being outdoors after dark, help them feel safe, and share information about nocturnal animals, the senses they use at night, and how we can better develop our own senses and awareness of the dark. Afterwards, Ella Sharp will be providing guided telescope observing. Event start time varies (depending on the sunset) and night sky observing is after sunset to view the planets, watch the stars come out, and many other celestial wonders. Telescope observing is dependent on clear skies.  Price: $8 for members (either Dahlem or Ella) / $10 for non-members.  Register at https://ellasharpmuseum.org  or https://www.dahlemcenter.org/ American 1 Credit Union Summer Car Sale.  Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12 PM to 8 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM.  Westwood Mall.  Daily prize package giveaways, $100 gas card from your dealership with purchase, food trucks everyday and more!  300+ vehicles from four local dealers.
