34th Annual Jackson Storyfest.  The Jackson District Library’s 34th Annual Storyfest returns November 1-6, 2021. This year’s theme – Storytelling Through the Arts – captures the many fun and creative forms of storytelling, from spoken word to song and dance. We are excited to partner with local organizations and professional storytellers to bring a unique storytelling experience to the Jackson Community.  For a full list of Storyfest events, visit our Storyfest page here. Hot Air Jubilee Art Contest.  The Hot Air Jubilee is hosting an art contest!  The contest is open to legal residents of the State of Michigan. Contestants must be age 13 or older at time of entry.  Parents or guardians of minors under the age of 13 can submit entries on behalf of their minor(s). Smith Hopes to Use Talent for the Long Run in College

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (October 31, 2021 8:00 AM) Despite being just a teenager, Lumen Christi Catholic High School runner Faith Smith has learned to succeed with hard work and believing in doing whatever it takes to succeed.  Learning to succeed using hard work and perseverance may come in handy. The senior would like to run cross country and track and field in college and study in a pre-medicine program.  Smith has been a two-time all-state runner for the Titans with a banner season in 2020.  But just after the 2020 season, Smith began to feel a pain in her hip. She let it go for a couple of months before Coach Mike Woolsey encouraged her to get an MRI.  “It was a tear in my labrum, hip bursitis, and other hip problems,” Smith said. “I am the only 17-year-old I know with hip problems.” Smith missed her junior year in track and had surgery for the hip trouble in May. It was the second consecutive track seasons missed by Smith – 2020 due to COVID-19.  “I spent a lot of time at the YMCA doing pool runs for 45 minutes,” Smith said. “It was harder mentally than physically…

Extreme Dodge Jackson Country Scoreboard for Oct. 30, 2021

Volleyball Columbia Central at Mt. Morris Invitational: Columbia Central went 5-0-1 in pool play and seeded fifth going into bracket play. The Golden Eagles lost 25-23 and 25-23 to South Lyon in the quarterfinals of the bracket play. CCHS was 5-1-1 on the day.  Hanover-Horton at Bedford Invitational: The Comets were 3-1 in pool play defeating Ida, Grosse Ile, and Allen Park. Hanover-Horton lost to Dundee in quarterfinal play to end the day at 3-2.   Cross Country Regionals Division 1 at Huron Meadows Metro Park, Brighton Division 1 girls:  Jackson High School finished 13th as a team at Brighton. Olivia Perrine qualified for the MHSAA D-1 state finals by finishing 10th with a time of 19:14.   Division 1 boys: Jackson High School finished 10th as a team with 262 points. Chad Perrine finished 21st individually with a time of 17:03.  Division 2 at Portage West Middle School Division 2 girls: Alyna Lewis finished fourth individually for Western High School to qualify for the Michigan High School Athletic Association D-2 state finals on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. Lewis finished the 5K course in 19 minutes, 49 seconds. Western finished seventh as a team and Northwest was 14th. Lainey…
