Michigan Reports 7,505* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 1,104,634

(October 22, 2021 3:11 PM) Michigan reported 7,505* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 1,104,634. Michigan is reporting 118** COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 21,862.    *Note on cases (10/22/2021): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the two days (Thursday and Friday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~3752 per day. **The deaths announced today includes 69 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 10/15/21): 962,955. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

US-127 Lane Closures at M-50 and US-12 in Brooklyn Detour Begin Next Week

 (October 22, 2021 3:02 PM) The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced two construction projects will start next week that will require traffic adjustments. Starting Monday in Brooklyn, MDOT is replacing the Neery drain culverts at the US-12/M-50 intersection.  US-12 will be closed and detoured via M-124. An alternate route is advised.  This work will result in better drainage that will help protect this roadway.  This closure begins on Monday, October 25 at 7 AM and is scheduled for completion at 5 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021.  Starting Tuesday in Jackson, MDOT will close one lane in each direction on US-127 at M-50 for deck repairs.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane. An alternate route is advised.  Lane closures will begin at 7 AM on Tuesday, October 26 and will be completed by 6 PM on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

Booster Doses Authorized for Those Who Received Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

(October 22, 2021 2:18 PM) Following FDA approval, recommendations from the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the endorsement of the CDC director, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is urging certain Michiganders to get a booster vaccine if they received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson (J&J) primary COVID-19 vaccines. This includes people ages 65 and older; individuals 18 through 64 years of age at high risk of severe COVID-19 due to underlying health conditions; and those at high risk of COVID-19 due to occupational or institutional exposure. "We must take every measure we can to protect Michiganders, and that now includes booster doses for the various groups who are now eligible to receive them," said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, MDHHS chief medical executive. "We know vaccines work and are the way out of the pandemic. The FDA has authorized a booster dose for some individuals to maintain and increase that level of protection. There is an ample supply of vaccines available, and we urge all eligible Michiganders to get their booster dose as soon as possible." Jackson County Cumulative Report: 20,383 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 328 Deaths

(October 22, 2021 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 20,383 positive cases (cumulative), and 328 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 97 new cases and 3 new deaths since yesterday’s report. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  As of October 20, there are 32 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19.  Cumulative recovered, as of October 22: 18,031** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Center for Family Health Announces Art & Photo Contest for 30th Anniversary

(October 22, 2021 11:16 AM) The Center for Family Health has announced it is holding an art and photo contest in conjunction with the health center’s 30th anniversary celebration.   The contest is open to all professional and amateur artists or photographers living in Jackson, Michigan, aged 12 and up. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works in all mediums, styles and disciplines as well as photographic works that include old and new processes are allowed. Photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both are also allowed.  Entries will be evaluated by a jury and displayed at the Center for Family Health.  All featured artists and photographers will be invited to an opening reception.   Prize Categories include: Ages 12-14:  1st place -$500, 2nd place - $250, 3rd place - $125 Ages 15-18:  1st place -$500, 2nd place - $250, 3rd place - $125 Ages 19+:      1st place -$1,000, 2nd place - $600, 3rd place - $300 The entry period for the Center for Family Health Arts and Photo Contest begins Midnight Eastern Standard Time (EST) Tuesday, October 19, 2021, and ends Tuesday, November 23, 4 pm, Eastern Standard Time (EST).  For complete rules, guidelines,…

Extreme Dodge Jackson County Sports Scoreboard for Oct. 21, 2021

Football Western 35, Richmond 17: Western High School improved to 6-3 win a home win on Thursday against Richmond. Nolan Wheeler had a big night for Western with 284 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and an 80-yard touchdown run. Lincoln Raczkowski scored two touchdowns and Cole Wilcox and Trenten Schnebelt each added touchdowns for Western. Landon Heavy finished with five tackles for the Panthers. Western jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter against Richmond.    Hanover-Horton 26, Bronson 22:  Gavin Gumper ran for a 37-yard touchdown and caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Johnson for the Comets. Blaise Uphaus and Aiden Weir also scored for the Comets. Hanover-Horton finished the season with a 4-5 overall record. Johnson threw for 95 yards, Wyatt Hill recorded 12 tackles, and Seth Dailey intercepted a pass for Hanover-Horton.  Volleyball Columbia Central 3, Napoleon 1: Columbia Central won the battle of M-50 by 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, and 25-20 at Napoleon Thursday night. Momo Hampton had 21 assists and 22 digs, Alyssa Budd finished with 10 kills, and Kaitlyn Pequet tallied 28 digs for Napoleon (19-10-2).
