Jackson Community Concert Band Returns

(October 29, 2021 11:22 AM) Jackson College has announced the return of the Jackson Community Concert Band with a fall program entitled “Marvel and Marches,” at 3 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center. The band will present an afternoon of Marvel and Marches – music to celebrate heroes, real and imagined. Music will include the “King Karl King March,” “Songs of the Great War,” “Absolutely Sousa” as well as a “Super-Hero Medley” with themes from Marvel Studios, “Superman,” “Captain America March,” and “The Avengers,” and “Music from ‘The Incredibles.’” The JC Drumline will make a guest appearance during the concert’s intermission, a preview to the Nov. 18 “Jackson Percussion Concussion” which will feature many area drumlines and the Detroit Lions Drumline. The JC Drumline instructor is recent MSU grad and Spartan Drumline alumnus, Jackson’s own Jack Tallman. The Detroit Lions leader is former Detroit Pistons Drumline leader Todd Ohme, also an MSU alumnus. The Community Concert Band performance is free, and the community is welcome. Jackson County Health Department Weekly Update Oct. 29, 2021

(October 29, 2021 9:45 AM)  The Jackson County Health Department has released its weekly update: BOOSTER DOSES:  Booster doses have been approved for the Moderna and the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccines.  Recommendations regarding the time since the primary series, and who should receive a booster vary between the vaccines.  Individuals can choose to receive the same vaccine that they did for the initial series or one of the other approved vaccines. mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna) recipients The following recipients of an mRNA primary series should receive a single COVID-19 booster dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen) at least 6 months after completion of the primary series: People aged 65 years and older Residents aged 18 years and older in long term care settings People aged 50–64 years with certain underlying medical conditions The following recipients of an mRNA primary series may receive a single COVID-19 booster dose (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen) at least 6 months after completing their primary series based on their individual benefits and risks: People aged 18–49 years with certain underlying medical conditions People aged 18–64 years at increased risk for SARS-CoV-2 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting Janssen COVID-19 vaccine recipients People aged…

Volleyball Cascades Final at Michigan Center: Napoleon High School won its first outright title in volleyball since 2013 with a 2-1 win over Grass Lake in the conference finals. The Pirates were 7-0 heading into the Cascades Conference finals at Michigan Center. Grass Lake and Manchester were tied for second heading into the finals. Hanover-Horton finished fourth overall with wins over Michigan Center and Manchester. Momo Hampton finished with 55 assists, Alyssa Budd scored 21 kills, Karson Fairbanks tallied 22 service points and Kaitlyn Pequet finished with 22 digs for Napoleon (23-10-2).  Jackson Christian at SCAA Crossover: Jackson Christian defeated Litchfield in five sets, 25-19, 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, and 15-8. Kyana Herendeen had 26 assists and four aces, Julaiana McCombs finished with 13 kills, and Liv Conrad had nine kills and nine aces for Jackson Christian.  Coldwater Quad: Western High School defeated Bronson and St. Philip at Coldwater. Finley Elder had 26 kills, Hannah Pratt finished with 26 digs, and Brynn Rogers finished with 53 assists and 22 kills.  Concord at Onsted Quad: Concord won two of three matches as the quad meet at Onsted. October 29 Little Shop of Horrors.  Center Stage Jackson proudly presents the hilarious musical Little Shop of Horrors - directed by Sarah Noah. A sassy man-eating plant, a sadistic dentist, and a love story with music that will leave you toe-tapping and humming as you leave the theater!
