Selby Showcase: Mericle Brings Versatility to Track, Field

East Jackson High School track and field athlete Brynn Mericle glides over the high hurdles during a home meet this past week.  By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (April 30, 2022 8:00 AM) Coaches always talk about enjoying athletes who compete in multiple sports and can be versatile.  East Jackson High School track and field athlete Brynn Mericle fits that bill. The senior has competed in golf, cross country, basketball, and track and field in her high school career. In her running career, Mericle has ran in events from 55 meters to 3.1 miles.  The running has paid off for Mericle as she will attend Trine University on a track scholarship. She specializes in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles and has the top time in Jackson County for the upcoming Selby Meet at 17.51 second in the high hurdles. “The high hurdle event is a pretty brutal event … it is just a quick sprint,” Mericle said. “I think I can sprint better than run long distances.” Mericle started running the 55-meter hurdles in eighth grade and coaches saw the potential in her. Last year she made it to the Michigan High School Athletic Division 4 state finals, but finished ninth…
