Jackson College Classes Returning to the King Center
(May 31, 2022 11:22 AM) Jackson College today announced the return of college classes to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. In a continuing effort to further connect with the downtown community, Jackson College will again offer courses at the City of Jackson MLK Center. Following the renovation of classrooms in the facility in 2019, the College began offering courses but were suspended because of the pandemic. Jackson College, in cooperation with the City of Jackson, will now offer courses leading to an entrepreneurship certificate, a 19-credit credential that may be completed in three semesters. “This is one of those unique times where I get to wear both a hat as an affinity liaison for the College and hat as mayor and advocate for both of those places that I work,” said Daniel Mahoney, mayor of the City of Jackson and affinity liaison to the African-American community for Jackson College. “This shows great leadership from our president and board to go down this route, to help more students attempt classes and be successful at the College. Jackson College Summer Concert Series Returns
(May 31, 2022 10:55 AM) Jackson College has announced the return of the Summer Concert Series on the Potter Center’s “back patio” this summer. For years, the College presented the Front Porch Concert Series. Now, with renovations and improvements to the Potter Center, the series continues on the back patio. All concerts are free and open to the community. Performances scheduled: June 8, Phil Bickel’s Jackson French Quarter Dixieland Band -- presenting favorites such as “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Bill Bailey,” and “Closer Walk.” June 16, The Capital City Brass Band -- featuring professional musicians from Jackson, Lansing, and all areas in-between, the award-winning Capital City Brass Band has been exciting audiences since 2001! This group includes several local musicians who have been part of the Jackson Community Concert Band, played in Trombonefest and/or the Jackson Symphony Orchestra over the years. June 19, Trombonefest -- “Baroque to Beatles, Queen and Blue Suede,” all with 30-plus trombones and a rockin’ rhythm section! June 21, Jackson Community Concert Band Summer Concert -- with exciting, light-hearted literature with some classics for spice. Golf Regionals Start Today at Various Locations
(May 31, 2022 7:00 AM) The top three teams and top three individuals not on qualifying teams will advance out of regionals competitions this week. Each team scores consist of four scores for 18 holes for a team total. Jackson High School will host a Division 1 regional at Cascades Golf Course on Wednesday and East Jackson will host a D-4 regional at Calderone Golf Club the same day. The state tournaments will be held June 10, 11 at various courses throughout Michigan.
