By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 11, 2022 1:32 PM) Michigan Center High School graduate Kamryn Shannon hit nearly every fairway during a 54-hole national tournament a couple of weeks ago at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. Despite an erratic driver on Monday, Shannon earned medalist honors in the Jackson County Womens Golf Association Match Play Championship at Sharp Park Golf Course. Shannon shot a 1-over-par 72 at Sharp Park Golf Course to lead the qualifying round. Defending champion Andrea Clark played in the qualifying tournament, but did not need to post a score to qualify. Jackson High School golfer Natalie Kulka shot a 74 and Anna Faucher finished with a 79. Match play for championship matches starts at 7:30 a.m.; first flight matches begin at 8:02; second flight matches begin at 8:34; and third flight at 8:58. Shannon said her putter saved her during the qualifying round at Sharp Park. “The driver was pretty rough today,” Shannon said. “I did not have many chances at birdies today. “Par or better is my goal right now … but I want to try to be under par.” Shannon has only played in two…

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 10, 2022 6:08 PM) Local golfer Steve Maddalena has played senior golfing events all over the country … including tournaments in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. But whenever he is in town, Cascades Golf Course is one of his favorite courses to play. Maddalena proved that on Sunday shooting a 4-under-par 68 to win the Jackson County Senior Open by five strokes. He finished the two day tournament with a 6-under-par total of 138. Maddalena defeated Mike Brockie by five shots (143) and Greg Zeller by seven shots (145). The trio combined to finish five under par of the second round. “I haven’t played a lot around here,” Maddalena said. “I like to play (local events) whenever I am in town.” Maddalena took a one-shot lead into the final round but proved he meant business on Sunday with four birdies on his first five holes. He finished the par 37 front nine at Cascades with a 33. Maddalena has won 54 major tournaments in Jackson County and maybe just as many senior events. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 9, 2022 8:33 PM) Steve Maddalena will take a one-stroke lead into the second round of the Jackson County Senior Open Sunday at Cascades Golf Course. Maddalena shot a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday during the first round of the event. Mike Brockie and Maddalena were the only golfers under par on Saturday. Brockie finished with a 1-under-par 71. Greg Zeller and Mike Raymond shot 74s, Todd Marston finished with a 75, and Matt Wiley shot a 76 in the championship flight. Maddalena, Brockie and Zeller will tee off at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Harold West and Steve Davis are tied for first in the first flight with 78s and Nathan Lazebnik, Michael Mason, and Jim Jakubowski shot 79s. Roger Kuhl leads the second flight with a 76 and Ron Potok finished with a 78.
