Kulka Continues to Get Better on Golf Course

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 21, 2022 8:00 AM) There is an interesting correlation between the practice schedule of Jackson High School golfer Natalie Kulka and the results. The more she practices – and enjoys it – the better the JHS senior becomes.  Kulka gained a world of confidence by becoming a state qualifier last fall and her tournament results from this summer. “I have found more passion with each year playing golf,” Kulka said. “I have had a lot of fun … golf is my thing.” It has been the thing for her family as her father and sometimes caddie Mike, and her whole family had a chance to follow Natalie around the golf course in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 state finals in 2021. “I found that I can play with the big players in Michigan (at the D-2 state finals),” Kulka said.  She qualified for the state tournament with an 81 at the regional meet and scores of 82 and 83 at the state finals. Kulka finished three shots out of the top 10. “I think I can get into the top 10 this year … I was right there,” Kulka said.  Kulka…

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 20, 2022 7:20 PM) Every golf tournament should use a modified scoring system. At least according to Jackson area golfer Dave Crandall. Crandall won his second major golf championship with a win at the Jackson Stableford Tournament at Sharp Park Golf Course on Saturday. The system uses a points system based on scores – 0 points for a par, 2 points for a birdie, 5 points for an eagle, 8 points for a double eagle, and minus 1 and minus 3 points for a bogey and double bogey respectively.  Crandall finished with a total of 18 points to win the 36-hole championship on Saturday. The golfer finished with 12 birdies on the day.  He won the championship back in 2020 for his first major golf championship in the Jackson area.  Former Napoleon High School golfer Evan Brzyski finished second with 16 points, Todd Marston scored 14 points, Mike Boldt tallied 13 points and Jim Coutu scored 12 points. Mike Kulka won the first flight with…
