Spencer Wins First Golf Major with Victory at Spring Thaw

The Wayne State University golfer shot a 3-under-par 69 to win the Spring Thaw Golf Tournament at Cascades Golf Course by four shots. He finished the two-day tournament at 140. Brian Cook finished at even par 144 for second place, Steve Maddalena shot 147 to claim third place, Andrew Tindall and Jacob Malcangi tied for fourth place shooting 148s, and Bret Valkuchak and Mike Brockie tied for sixth place at 149. Spencer dominated the par 5s shooting 8-under-par on the four longest holes during the tournament. Sunday he got a bit lucky on No. 6, earning an eagle with a punch shot from trouble. Spencer pushed his second shot on the par five hole and had to hit a 5-iron punch shot to get the ball to the green. When it went into the hole for an eagle, it was game on.
