S. West Avenue in Jackson Closing for Pavement Repairs, Trail Construction

(July 31, 2023 1:39 PM ET) Two construction projects are closing a busy street in Jackson for two weeks. S. West Avenue from Fourth Street to Kibby Road is closing on Wednesday, Aug. 2 so crews can replace sections of pavement and reconstruct a pedestrian trail crossing. During the closure, two contractors will work on separate tasks. One contractor will be removing and rebuilding the MLK Equality Trail crossing at S. West Avenue. They will upgrade the trail crossing to meet current standards and get it ready for upcoming construction. In the coming years, the entirety of the MLK Equality Trail will be reconstructed. The trail section from W. Prospect Street to S. West Avenue will first see construction later this summer. The MLK Equality Trail is Jackson’s main pedestrian trail that connects to the Falling Waters Trail in Summit Township. While the trail crossing work is happening, the other contractor will work on pavement patching along S. West Avenue. This will involve replacing large sections of deteriorating roadway with new asphalt. As a major thoroughfare, it’s important to keep the roadway in good condition to extend the overall life of the street. S. West Avenue will be closed to…
