Bentley on a Mission in MHSAA Golf

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (September 10, 2023 8:00 AM ET) Columbia Central High School golfer Logan Bentley shot her worst two rounds of the year during the Epson Tour golfing event at Battle Creek last summer. But along the way, she learned a couple of valuable lessons. The CCHS junior may be taking it out on her competition this late summer and early fall in high school golf. Bentley has been the medalist in all of her tournaments and jamborees, including a 2-under-par round to start the season. The junior played in the Epson Tour event – the minor league for the LPGA Tour – and shot 84 and 85. She missed the cut in the event by a number of strokes but gained a lot of confidence in the process.   “I saw the tournament listing in the area and contacted the tournament director,” Bentley said in June of her pursuit to receive an exemption. “I sent an email response, and they gave me the spot.” The two-time all-state golfer was one of two who received exempt status for the tournament.  “I gave them some background information on my golf career, and they gave me the spot,” Bentley said.…

Extreme Dodge Jackson County Scoreboard September 9, 2023

Volleyball Michigan Center, Napoleon at Leslie Invitational: Napoleon High School defeated Michigan Center in the final at Leslie. Napoleon’s home tournament scheduled for Saturday was cancelled due to lack of referees. The Pirates defeated MCHS 25-20, 23-25, and 15-11. Maggie Beer finished with 25 kills, 25 assists, and 26 digs on the day for Napoleon. Audrey Chapman finished with 31 digs and Gracie Tallman tallied nine blocks for Napoleon.  Mason Invitational: Western High School went 3-0 in pool play with wins over Dansville, Northwest, and Sturgis. In bracket play the Panthers defeated Bath and Dansville before losing 25-21 and 25-18 to Mason in the final. Kayda Herrick finished with 58 kills, Abby Nieswender dished 110 assists and served 10 aces, and Palmer Fortress tallied 42 digs for Western.  Girls Cross Country Homer Invitational: Michigan Center High School finished sixth with 146 points. Julia Reynolds of MCHS finished 27th in 24:29. Columbia Central failed to post a score, but Melyssa McJennett finished 21st in 23:48.  Hanover-Horton, Napoleon at Bath Invitational: The Comets won another invitational scoring a minuscule 23 points at Bath. Olivia Perrine won the event in 20:12, teammate Sophia Reynolds was second, Julianna Debozy-Crawford placed fourth in 21:37, and…

Offenses Rule During Week Three in High School Football By Jeff Steers JTV Sports  (September 9, 2023 8:06 AM ET) It was leave your defense at the door night in local high school football contests.  Seven local schools put up at least 30 points in games played Friday night.  Michigan Center and Columbia Central combined to score 35 points in the first quarter of a wild one at CCHS. The Cardinals scored three times in the final nine minutes to pull out a heart-stopping win over the Golden Eagles. Here are some of the highlights of high school football around the Jackson area.  Michigan Center 39, Columbia Central 35: The Cardinals stopped CCHS twice to earn the come-from-behind win. The two teams combined for 35 points in the first quarter – must have been leave your defense at the door night. Columbia Central led 28-20 at halftime and appeared to have the game in hand when Braden Ellison ran 50 yards for a score in the third quarter. But MCHS responded with three scores to end the game. Brennan Forward scored on a touchdown pass from Lucas Howard with 44 seconds remaining in the game to complete the comeback. Howard…
