Northbound US-127 Ramp to Westbound I-94 Closed Tuesday for Traffic Shift

Photo by MDOT Photography Unit. (September 25, 2023 4:08 PM ET) The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the northbound US-127 ramp to westbound I-94 for a traffic shift. This work is part of MDOT's ongoing $120 million investment to rebuild and widen I-94 near the Airport Road interchange to just west of the east US-127/I-94 interchange in Blackman and Leoni Township. The I-94 project involves upgrading the US-127/M-50 (West Avenue)/I-94 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, the Elm Road interchange with roundabouts, and the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94. The closure is in effect from 6 AM to 3 PM on Tuesday, September 26. Traffic will be detoured via Michigan Avenue and M-50 (West Avenue). Also, Westbound I-94 will have a single-lane closure from US-127 to M-106 (Cooper Street). The Elm Road entrance ramp to westbound I-94 will be closed intermittently during the same hours on Tuesday (6 AM to 3 PM). On Tuesday, September 26, Eastbound I-94 will have a single-lane closure from Airport Road to Sargent Road from 7 AM to 5 PM.

South Jackson Road Bridge Closing for Replacement

(September 25, 2023 3:39 PM ET) The Jackson County Department of Transportation will be closing the bridge on South Jackson Road (Between Liberty and Vicary Roads) in Liberty Township, for Bridge replacement beginning Monday September 25, 2023 (weather permitting). The road is expected to be opened for through traffic on December 15, 2023. Detours will be posted and motorists are encouraged to follow the detours.

No Customer Without Power for More Than 24 Hours in New Consumers Energy Five Year Plan

(September 25, 2023 12:07 PM ET)  Consumers Energy today unveiled the company’s Reliability Roadmap and plan for electric distribution going forward at a press event at the Grand Rapids Consumers Energy Service Center. In announcing the plan, the company noted Michigan has not been immune to severe weather changes happening around the globe. Ice storms, 60+ mph winds and multiple late summer tornadoes are part of a broader trend challenging energy grids nationwide. The last four-year period in Michigan has seen wind-speed averages twice as high as any similar period in the last 20 years. “Job #1 for us is to keep the lights on regardless of the weather,” said Tonya Berry, Senior Vice President of Transformation & Engineering at Consumers Energy. “Consistent with our commitment to improve service reliability, Consumers Energy has established new grid performance expectations that better reflect the reality of what Mother Nature is sending our way,” Berry continued. “We are sharing these customer service commitments for the first time, reinforcing our ‘Count on Us’ promise to the nearly 2 million electric customers we have the privilege of serving.” Consumers Energy’s Reliability Roadmap is a blueprint to strengthen Michigan’s electric grid that includes the new long-term…
