Friday, November 1 SOAR’s Healing Handbags FUNdraising Event.  5 PM to 8 PM.  We are so excited to be hosting our annual Healing Handbags FUNdraising event this year! Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Our seating format this year is open seating, except for our corporate tables. We will have a dinner buffet offering herb-stuffed chicken or lasagna. In addition to handbags this year we will have gift baskets for the raffle as well. Jackson Storyfest.  The largest storytelling festival in Michigan returns to Jackson County for the 37th straight year...with a twist. In the past, Storyfest was organized and hosted at area schools. Now, community members of all ages are able to enjoy the event with their family and friends as famous storytellers visit JDL branch locations throughout Jackson County on November 1-2. College Athletic Events Volleyball Jackson College 3, Henry Ford 1: The Jets finished in second place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association with an 8-4 record. They begin play in the National Junior College Division II Great Lake District Tournament Thursday, Nov. 7, at St. Clair County Community College at 4 p.m. Samantha Wynn and Allie Jarchow each finished with 14 kills for Jackson College against Henry Ford. Alivia Smith tallied 31 assists and Jaden Bates created 28 digs for the Jets (18-7 overall). Spring Arbor 3, Bethel 2: The Cougars pulled out the match with a 15-13 victory in the fifth set. Kendall Bollenbacher finished with 23 kills, Camy Wedge tallied 26 assists, and Kirstyn Throop recorded 29 digs for SAU (12-13 overall, 6-10 Crossroads League). Domestic Violence Forum.  12 – 1 p.m. Perhaps you know someone who has experienced a troubled relationship or heard of some high-profile domestic violence cases in the news. To better understand this all too frequent problem, join us for an eye-opening Domestic Violence Forum at 12 noon Thursday, Oct. 31 in Bert Walker Hall, Community Rooms 144 & 145.  Learn more about what domestic violence is, its prevalence today, steps for a victim to take, and steps to recovery. This forum will feature a panel discussion with:  George Lyons (Defense Attorney), Kelsey Guernsey (Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office), Daisha Cooper (Surviving Victim), Sara Sabin (Chief Clinical Officer at the Oasis Center),  and Lt. Pete Postma (Jackson Police Department).  Domestic or intimate partner violence (IPV) may include physical assault, battery, sexual assault, stalking and/or psychological aggression or other abusive behavior by one intimate partner over another. It affects more than 12 million people each year, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. More than 41 percent of women and 26 percent of men have experienced IPV in their lifetime.  Hosted by the Office of Inclusive Excellence, this important event is free and open to all.
