(11-1-2024, 10:45PM): Springport came into the playoffs after a 7-2 regular season and its first playoff appearance since 2018.

The Spartans defense opened up the game forcing a 3-and-out on defense and a punt on the first two drives, stopping the run game from the Panthers.

Springport ate up almost eight minutes of the clock, scoring with 9:45 left in the second quarter on a 1-yd QB sneak from Gibson Overweg to make it a 7-0 lead. Overweg quickly responded on defense, grabbing a pick-six just a couple plays later making it 13-0 with 8:04 left in the first half.

Addison was able to get a stop on defense, sacking the QB and forcing a turnover on downs the next drive. They got the offense going as well, quickly moving down the field in the last 3:30 of the half. The Panthers capped off the first half with a 19-yard run by Michael Trumble and a 9-yard run from Caleb Potts.

Addison scored on a QB keeper from Joshua Ray to make it a 13-8 Springport lead at halftime.

Springport scored on all 4 of its second half drives to pull away in the game. Daniel Dysert helped set up the opening drive of the second half with a 25-yard carry. Jake Kregel caught a 41-yd TD pass from Gibson Overweg with 10:43 left to make it 19-8 Springport.

Addison responded to stay in this game with a 5-yard TD run from Michael Trumble to make it a 19-14 game with 4:39 left in the third. From there on, it was all Spartans to finish the game off. Overweg continued his exceptional play, throwing a 30-yd TD pass to Gavin Lightner to make it 27-14 Springport after three.

The Spartans capped off the lead in the 4th with a 15-yd TD pass to Tucker Wiginton and a 21-yard field goal from Lightner. Springport defeated Addison 38-14 to win their first ever playoff game, and win #101 for Coach Ben Pack.

QB Gibson Overweg accounted for all five Springport TDs (4 passing and a pick-six on defense). Jake Kregel, Gavin Lightner and Tucker Wiginton all scored for the Spartans as well. QB Joshua Ray and Michael Trumble scored the two touchdowns for Addison. Springport will play in the District Championship next Friday (11/8) at home vs Reading.
