Spring Arbor, Michigan– The Spring Arbor University men’s basketball team is having one of their best starts in years. They stand at 7-1 on the season, and are looking to continue their winning streak on Friday night. A win would mean a seven game win streak for the Cougars.
Spring Arbor University men’s basketball team defeated Grace Christian University 79-72 on Monday night. The win was spurred on by Senior, Luke Barber. Barber scored a career-high 25 points and knocked down a career-best six three-pointers to lead the Cougars.
Grace Christian falls to 5-3 on the season after the loss at Aldrich Athletic Center. The Tigers had the lead at the halftime break, 36-29. SAU flipped the script in the second half, shooting at a 58 percent clip while draining seven three’s. Barber went 5-for-6 from behind the arc and was good for 20 second half points.
With less than two minutes remaining, Grace Christian trailed by two, 74-72. “Barber buried his sixth triple of the night to put the game away. He would clinch the game with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds,” said SAU’s Christopher Bauman in a press release.
Spring Arbor connected on 47 percent (27-for-57) of its field goal attempts and was 15-for-15 on free throws. The Tigers shot 46 percent (29-for-63) on the night.
On Friday they’ll face the Cardinals, who they haven’t seen since 2013. In 2013 the Cougars lost a close one 73-70 to Concordia. It was their first loss in the five loss series. The contest will be at Concordia University. Tickets can be purchased one hour prior to tipoff. The contest will begin at 7:30pm.
