SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University’s Kevin Smith has earned his third career Crossroads League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor following his outstanding performance at the Saginaw Valley State University Classic on Friday.
Smith earned a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 43’ 1.75” (6.74 meters), which ranks as the fifth-best mark in SAU history. The sophomore from Battle Creek, Michigan also grabbed fifth place in the long jump, hitting a distance of 22’ 1.50” (13.15 meters).
Smith currently ranks 12th in the NAIA in the long jump and 24th in the triple jump.
In addition to his success in the field events, Smith also ran a leg of 4×400 meter relay. The Cougars would go on to take first place in the race with a time of 3:23.27 – the third-fastest performance ever at SAU.
Smith has already hit a qualifying mark for the 2016 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in the heptathlon.
Spring Arbor will return to action at the Aquinas College Quad-Meet on Friday, Jan. 22 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
