Vandercook Lake High School cross country runner Andrew Frohm feels like he can compete with anyone on the course.
He proved that Saturday at the Hudson Booster Invitational behind Hudson High School.
Frohm finished the 5K course in 16 minutes, 34 seconds to edge Nathen Letson of Adrian for the Division 2/3 title.
He was behind the lead runner from Wauseon by about 15 yards with less than a mile left to run on a cool day in Hudson.
“I pulled ahead of the Wauseon runner in the woods,” Frohm said of his comeback win. “The Adrian runner (Letson) really helped me pull ahead.”
Frohm said he trained more than 55 miler per week during the summer. He is currently working on speed drills.
Last spring, he finished ninth in the 1,600-meter run at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 finals. He missed all-state honors by one position.
“I was disappointed because I let a gap go in the race,” Frohm said.
Later in the day he placed eighth in the 3,200-meter run earning all-state honors.
“I feel like I can run with anyone,” Frohm said. “I run because I love to compete.”
