The Jackson YMCA has released an architectural concept drawing of the proposed new  Jackson YMCA building.  The image is provided by Bergmann, architects based in Grand Rapids.

The Jackson YMCA announced a capital campaign in November 2017 with the goal of raising $25 million for the construction of a new facility.   The current building, which has more than 200,000 member check-ins annually, is 57 years old, not fully accessible to those with limited mobility, and deteriorating rapidly.

Following yesterday’s announcement by County National Bank of a gift of $100,000, the campaign has raised $14.1 million, more than halfway to their $25 million goal.

The Board of Directors of the Jackson YMCA has previously announced their commitment to build the new Y in downtown Jackson.  This week CEO Shawna Tello indicated options have narrowed to include property the Y already owns, adjacent to the current building.  Tello describes that option as the most likely; with the new structure being constructed on the existing Y parking lot.  Following completion, the current Y would be razed for space for parking.
