SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team has been honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season, the AVCA announced Monday, July 25.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
The AVCA recorded its highest-ever total number of recipients, honoring 762 programs teams nationwide this year.
Spring Arbor boasted a 3.60 team GPA – the 10th-best mark among NAIA programs. The Cougars had nine players maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, while three of those were recognized as NAIA Scholar-Athletes (junior or above with at least a 3.5 GPA).
Spring Arbor opens its 2016 season Aug. 26 when it travels to Dearborn, Michigan for the University of Michigan-Dearborn Early Bird Challenge.
