Jackson College Offering New Certificates, Public Administration Course for Fall

(August 14, 2020 2:22 PM)  Jackson College has announced the development of programs to meet the needs of today’s students, offering new certificates and a pilot course to prepare students for the workplace.

Certificate, Digital Marketing 

Learn how to promote products and services online, via social media marketing, e-mail marketing, pay-per-click web advertising, blogging and more. Digital marketers use business acumen, creativity, communication, and technology skills to create and track campaigns and interact with the public. This certificate helps students learn the specific digital skills to do exactly that, said Professor Angel Fonseca. Students will have the opportunity to sit for an exam by the American Marketing Association for certification.

“We want to help students combine their business marketing skills with the technology savvy for this fast-growing field,” she said. “Students may complete the certificate or continue their studies to complete an associate degree in business administration.”

Certificate, Behavioral Sciences 

For those with a passion for helping people, working in behavioral sciences offers a rewarding career. Students planning to transfer to universities as psychology majors may start with this certificate and may also find entry-level employment as clinic technicians in human services fields.

This certificate is designed for students who plan to transfer to four-year institutions as psychology majors and also meets several general education requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. Certificate graduates could also find work as clinic technicians in human services fields. Students choose a focus area based on transfer and career goals, including psychology, sociology, political science and law enforcement.

Public Administration Course

The College is planning a future public administration degree and will pilot a first course, Introduction to Public Administration, this fall. This three-credit course offers an overview of public administration by focusing on both theory and practical knowledge. It introduces students to basic principles, context, environment, organizational structure, and contemporary issues in public administration.

“You will understand how the public and private sector work together, how decisions are made and understand budgets and public finance from a leadership perspective,” said Clevester Moten, Ph.D., business instructor. “Working with the public, you will also understand social equity and inclusion and how to utilize those concepts as a community stakeholder and leader.”
