(October 29, 2021 11:33 AM) The Jackson College Foundation is now accepting nominations for both the annual Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award and the Captain Zenneth Pond Emerging Alumni Award.  Bettering their communities for over 90 years, Jackson College alumni add to all facets of their communities. Do you know of an outstanding alumnus who deserves to be recognized?

Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award Criteria   

  • An alumnus of Jackson Junior College, Jackson Community College or Jackson College, preferably having received a degree from the College.
  • Display positive personal involvement for the betterment of humankind with his or her community, state, nation or world.
  • Ongoing contact with the College, but particularly have shown professional or a vocational growth that exhibits values and standards learned at the College.

Pond Emerging Alumni Award Criteria

  • Must be an alumnus of/or have attended Jackson College aged 35 or under.
  • Attained exceptional accomplishments in business or professional and their professional life.
  • Demonstrated continuing outstanding voluntary service on a local, state, national or international level. (Include clubs, service organizations, and community involvement.)
  • Special honors or recognition (in professional or volunteer service.)
  • Must exhibit strong leadership qualities; honesty, goodwill, and lead a life of example.

Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Service Award 

Jackson College is also accepting nominations for the 2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Service Award. This award recognizes individuals or groups of individuals in Jackson County for their commitment to King’s ideals and community service. Medals will be awarded during the Jackson College King Celebration.

Applications are currently available online at https://forms.office.com/r/zV5cL9cK94 . The deadline to submit the application is Monday, Nov. 5, 2021. The award criteria recognize those who are committed to carrying out the dream and vision of Dr. King in several areas:

  • Belief in the basic tenets of cultural and ethnic diversity;
  • Giving back to the community through volunteerism and service;
  • Support and promotion of educational opportunities for underrepresented populations in Jackson County;
  • Promoting financial opportunities for poorer citizens of Jackson County;
  • Guiding youth and offering opportunities for social and moral development, giving them tools to interact socially with the broader culture; and,
  • Working toward a safe community and reduction of crime in Jackson County.

Recent winners of the award include Benny Poole (2021), Arlene Robinson (2020), Harold White Jr. (2019), Alan Wade (2018), Robert L. Burton (2017), and Bobby Thompkins (2016).
