Volleyball
Dansville Invitational: Napoleon High School advanced to the semifinal round before losing to Beal City, 28-26 and 29-27. Maggie Beer finished with 47 kills and 37 assists, Kate Fall dished 36 assists, and Gracie Tallman and Audrey Chapman combined for nearly 100 digs for the Pirates.
Skyline Invitational: After going 1-2 in pool play Western High School advanced to win the silver backet. They defeated two teams to advance to the finals where the Panther defeated St. Chatherine 25-17 and 25-13. Abby Nieswender finished with 84 assists, Kayda Herrick tallied 43 kills, Palmer Fortress finished with 53 digs, and J.J. Lewis served four aces for Western.
Girls Cross Country
Concord at Sturgis Invitational: Haley Stimer of Concord High School won the event in 20:13 and teammate Cieara Barrett finished fourth in 21:32.
A.A. Gabriel Richard Invitational: Lumen Christi won the medium school championship with 60 points, Grass Lake was ninth scoring 233, and Napoleon 15th scoring 383. Madison Osterberg of Lumen Christi won the event in 17:36, teammate Samantha Schroeder finished third in 19:03, and Chloe Khon of Northwest placed 11th in 19:44. Priya Mericle of East Jackson finished seventh in the small school division with a time of 22:01.
Boys Cross Country
Concord at Sturgis Invitational: Concord High School finished sixth with 139 points. Maddox Hutchinson of Concord finished 20th (19:23) and teammate Lleyton Bauman placed 23rd (19:52).
A.A. Gabriel Richard Invitational: Lumen Christi finished fifth (137), Grass Lake placed 12th (325), Napoleon was 15th (384), and Northwest 16th (434) in the medium school division. Isaiah Dinverno of Lumen Christi finished fourth (16:13), teammate Gannon Shore placed 10th (17:06), Gibson Shore of LCCHS finished 29th (17:40), and Hudson Cooper of Northwest was 39th (18:02). East Jackson finished eighth in the small school division. Javin Mericle of EJHS finished third overall in 17:18 and teammate William Kennedy was 11th with a time of 18:09.
College Sporting Events
Women’s Soccer
St. Clair CCC 2, Jackson College 1: Frances Parks scored 10 minutes into the second half on a nice assist by Tina Covic for Jackson College. The Jets had numerous chances to score but could not get the soccer ball past the St. Clair goalie. Jackson is now 10-8-1 overall for the season, 7-6-1 in the MCCAA. The Jets travel to Marian University Ancilla next Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
Spring Arbor University 2, Grace 0: Isa Martinez and Ariana Stoltzfus scored goals for the Cougars. Blair Currie earned the shutout in goal for Spring Arbor (12-0-1, 5-0-1).
Men’s Soccer
Grace 2, Spring Arbor University 0: Matt LeBlanc stopped two shots in goal for SAU (7-4-3, 3-3-1).
Cross Country
Jackson College at Charger Cross Country Invitational: Preston Mackenzie of Jackson College finished the 8K course in 29:19 to finish 31st and Zach Kubish was 34th in 29:28.
Women’s Basketball
Jackson College 49, North Central 32: Zoandria Bamm scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for JC in the win.
