(August 9, 2023 5:53 AM) Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney was the top vote getter in Tuesday’s Primary Election. He will seek re-election against challenger John Wilson in November, a rematch from November 2021. In the City of Jackson, voter turnout was 11.3%, with 2,721 casting votes.

Michigan Center School District voters approved a $6.3 bond issue for remodeling, equipping, and re-equipping school buildings, including improving air quality; acquiring and installing instructional technology; and purchasing school buses. The vote was 532 yes, 449 no. Voter turnout was 15.5%.
In Northwest Community School, a $21.5 million bond proposal for erecting, equipping, and furnishing classroom additions and a multipurpose room; remodeling, furnishing, and refurnishing and equipping and re-equipping school buildings, including for security improvements; acquiring and installing instructional technology; and preparing, developing, and improving sites. The vote was 2,226 yes, 1,598 no. A voter turnout of 20.08% in the district was reported by the Jackson County Clerk.
