Dig Jackson Street Construction Update

Progress continues on the various City of Jackson and MDOT construction projects underway.  On West Michigan Avenue, sewer and water connections have been set and all water mains have been installed.  The City Council will vote on the Park/Horton/Hickory intersection change Tuesday.  The Kibby Road project is being prepared for bids in August. W Michigan Avenue between Brown and Steward (MDOT) Work on this MDOT administered project to replace water mains, sewers, sidewalks and reconstruct the road with new curb and gutters and concrete pavement continues on schedule. All water mains along the stretch of W. Michigan Ave. have been installed, with contractors now working to connect the main and sanitary sewer to homes and businesses along that stretch. Water mains are now all tested as well, which means crews will exclusively work on connecting water and sewer lines to the new system. This work to connect the new lines to properties along W. Michigan Ave. will continue for the next couple of weeks. Electrical crews worked to install the bases for traffic signal arms along Louis Glick Highway. Overnight Storms Knock Out Power to 130,000 Consumers Energy Customers

Several rounds of severe thunderstorms across Michigan Thursday night and early Friday, with winds approaching 55 mph, have left more than 130,000 Consumers Energy customers without power. Restoration efforts are underway but it will likely be late Sunday until  all customers are restored. Areas of Jackson County affected include the Springport and Parma areas, the east side of the city of Jackson and portions of Blackman and Leoni townships.  “We have been working to restore customers since Thursday evening when the storms first hit northern Michigan,” said Guy Packard, the company’s vice president of electric operations. “Additional storms early Friday across western and central Michigan have us working around the clock to restore power. We appreciate our customers’ patience.” Damage assessment is continuing early Friday morning, but is likely the hardest hit areas, including portions of northeast and western Michigan, will not have their power restored until 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Additional storm activity may prolong restoration times. To view specific counties and regions most affected by electric interruptions, please visit www.ConsumersEnergy.com/OutageMap. Ambs Call Center Receives Award of Excellence

This annual award is presented by the Association of TeleServices International (ATSI). ATSI is the industry trade association for telephone answering service providers. Call centers from across North America and the United Kingdom take part in the Award of Excellence program. Ambs Call Center was presented with this year's award at ATSI’s 2017 Annual Convention held at Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, IL. The program uses independent judges to test make test calls to participating call centers. These 'secret shopper' calls occur over a six-month time frame. The criteria for scoring includes: • Response time • Courteousness of call center agent • Information accuracy • Knowledge of Account • Overall Impression of Call "The ATSI Award of Excellence Program recognizes that excellence requires a level of service that considers the caller first in every aspect of the call. Events of July 7, 8 and 9, 2017

The Jackson Downtown Development Authority presents the Grand River Farmers Market, today and tomorrow from 8am to 2pm.  The market, featuring seasonal farmers and other vendors is at Grand River Marketplace, corner of Glick Highway and Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson. “Jammin’ in Jackson”, tonight at Horace Blackman Park, downtown Jackson.  This is a free, family friendly, summer evening concert series. The series takes place in the heart of Downtown Jackson located at the new CP Federal City Square Stage.  Thank you to our event sponsors CP Federal Credit Union, Downtown Jackson and Michigan Theatre of Jackson for supporting this event year after year! This year the music begins at 6 pm and plays until 8 pm.  Tonight features Kevin Nichols and Blue Tuesday.  Thank you to Tripp’s Auto Shop, American 1 Credit Union, Integro LLC, Downtown Jackson, and Michigan Theatre of Jackson for making this event possible and worthwhile!  The Friday Film Festival continues tonight, presenting a family-friendly classic at CP Federal City Square space in Jackson’s Horace Blackman Park (next to the Hayes Hotel). This event is free and open to the public.  Tonight’s movie is “Shrek”.  Films will begin at dark (9:30/9:45 pm). Continued Warm, Showers Possible Tonight

The southwest winds ahead of cold front will bring the warmest temperatures of the month so far to Southern Michigan with many area reaching the mid and maybe upper 80s. Expect only high clouds during the day today. An area of thunderstorms is expected to drop south with the cold front tonight most areas should see at least a little rainfall from this. Skies will clear quickly Friday morning allowing for another warm day with highs in the 80s once again. The cool air moves in Friday night and remains in the area through the weekend.
