Severe Thunderstorm Potential

Consumers Energy is preparing for the possibility of damaging storms this afternoon.  This morning’s scattered storms across portions of Michigan will be followed by a more organized line of strong and potentially severe thunderstorms entering the southwest part of the state by 4 p.m. today. The storms are expected to impact much of the Lower Peninsula through this evening and may include wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. This active weather pattern could result in power outages. Consumers Energy is monitoring the weather closely, mobilizing resources and making other preparations to quickly respond to any service interruptions.   To help the public prepare for what to do before, during and after a storm, we encourage the media to visit www.ConsumersEnergy.com/OutageCenter for helpful tips. At this location, customers also can visit the online outage map, report an outage and sign up to receive power restoration updates.

Elaine Building to Receive Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation

Rehabilitation of the Peoples National Bank Building in Jackson -- long known as The Elaine Apartments -- has earned praise for developer Bob Jacobson and LC Consultants LLC, who made the property more accessible for residents. Governor Rick Snyder and Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Executive Director Earl Poleski announced the project as one of the recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation. “Historic preservation and the protection of our cultural resources is vital to our economic development, our sense of place, and our identity as Michiganders,” Gov. Snyder said. “Each May, during National Historic Preservation Month, we recognize the people and organizations who preserve Michigan’s historic buildings and archaeological sites.” The former bank building, which first opened in November 1865, was renovated as affordable senior housing in 1971. LC Consultants LLC recognized that the space lacked amenities that make life easier and more pleasant for its senior residents and used Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits to rehabilitate the building. The project added those important amenities and created 33 residential units, a community area and commercial space. Representing an investment of $10.3 million in downtown Jackson, the project is the first historic rehabilitation in the city in…

38 Special to Perform at Jackson College

Jackson College is presenting the rock band 38 Special and their signature blast of Southern Rock at Potter Center for one show only, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22. With sales in excess of 20 million, most associate the band 38 Special with their arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl” and more. They bring timeless hits that remain a staple at radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord, and paving the way to their present-day touring regimen. Guitarist/vocalist Don Barnes says it's all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. We're a team, and it's always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win.” It is that steely determination that lives on in the hearts of these “Wild-Eyed Southern Boys.” Completing the team is guitarist/vocalist Danny Chauncey, bassist Barry Dunaway, drummer Gary Moffatt and keyboardist/vocalist Bobby Capps. For 38 Special onstage, it is a celebration of friendship and brotherhood, bringing dedication and honesty to a long history of classic songs and fresh, new material. Since 1976, the band has released more…
