Hilderley, Shannon to Play for JCWGA Match Play Championship

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 13, 2022 6:31 PM) Local golfer Andrea Clark said last year after winning the Jackson County Womens Golf Association Match Play Championship one of the young players would defeat her on the course at some point. It was Wednesday. Lumen Christi Catholic High School golfer Ashley Hilderley defeated Clark 2-and-1 in the JCWGA Match Play Championship at Sharp Park Golf Course. Clark had won 13 consecutive match play titles and 16 overall in the tournament.  Hilderley will face Kamryn Shannon in the final. Shannon and Natalie Kulka – two of the best young golfers in Jackson – went head to head for 18 holes. Kulka’s caddy said Shannon shot a 7-under-par 64 on the day and Kulka finished with a 68 on the par 71 course. Shannon won 2-up in the 18-hole match.  Hilderley and Shannon will tee it up at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow at Sharp Park for the championship title.  Deb Falk and Kathy Swihart won matches in the first flight to advance to Thursday’s finals beginning at 7:46; Sue Daniels will face Sandy Straka for the championship in the second flight beginning at 8:10;…

JDL Hosts Youth Painting Class at Meijer Branch

Rene Wheaten from Jackson School of the Arts took students step-by-step through the process of painting an ocean scene during a class at the Jackson District Library Meijer Branch on Wednesday.  Photos and story by Jeff Steers, JTV News. (July 13, 2022 3:59 PM) In keeping with its summer reading program – Oceans of Possibilities – students in the teen painting class at the Jackson District Library Meijer Branch painted fish. Some starfish, goldfish, and Nemo look-a-likes were popular during the hour-long class on Wednesday. More than a dozen students between the ages of 11 to 18 participated in the program. Rene Wheaten from the Jackson School of the Arts took students step-by-step using a black easel, many different colors of paint, chalk, and some cleaning supplies to create the  mini paintings.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 42,756 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 573 Deaths

(July 13, 2022 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 42,756 positive cases (cumulative), and 573 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 272 new cases and 3 new deaths since last Wednesday’s report.   The next report will be on July 20.   Cumulative recovered, as of July 13:  41,181**. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Youth Prevails at JCWGA Match Play Tournament

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 12, 2022 3:38 PM) Youth prevailed on Tuesday during the first round of the Jackson County Womens Golf Association Match Play Championship at Sharp Park Golf Course. Kamryn Shannon, Natalie Kulka, Ashley Hilderley, and Andrea Clark all won matches in the championship flight. Shannon defeated Nikki Weeks 6-and-5, Kulka defeated Pam Messerly 3-and-2, Hilderley won against Anne Faucher 3-and-2, and Clark beat Sandy Fisher 6-and-5. Clark will face Hilderley in one championship flight semifinal on Wednesday and Kulka will take on Shannon in the other semifinal at Sharp Park Golf Course. Hilderley and Kulka are still in high school and Shannon just graduated from Michigan Center.  Clark is the defending champion in the match play event.  Deb Falk, Barb Smith, Kathy Swihart, and Judy Eddy won matches in the first flight. Falk will face Smith in one semifinal, and Swihart will take on Eddy in the other. In the second flight, Sue Daniels, Barb Fischer, and Sandy Straka won matches on Tuesday…
