(5-8-2026, 11:20PM): Western High School took down rival Northwest at home on Friday, led by a huge Lola Berdiner performance.
The Panthers opened up the game with a stranglehold on time of possession leading to an abundance of shots; 10 in the first half, 7 of which were off the foot of Lola Berdiner. Berdiner converted on her second shot, shooting from the right, burying the ball into the left side of the net.
After the first half almost entirely with Western in control of the ball, Northwest flipped the script to begin the second half. These early minutes of control led to several scoring opportunities including a free kick for Maddy McCall that bounced off the crossbar and a scramble for the ball near the net that led to a controversial off the post goal, credited to Avery Redmond, that tied the game at 1.
The Mounties’ run of possession control did not last much longer and the Panthers took control of the game again, accounting for all 9 shots the rest of the period.
Berdiner took over the game, highlighted by a sequence with 14 minutes left. Aligned with the corner of the penalty area near the left sideline, she launched a missile that sought out the top left corner of the net to regain the lead. Immediately following the kickoff, Western took possession and within 30 seconds, Berdiner scored again. This time letting it fly from the penalty arc into the bottom left to cap off her hat trick.
Western was not content with the two goal lead; searching for more, Berdiner put up two more shots accompanied by Jordan Goolsby and Vancalbergh shots leading to a diving save. The scoring was finalized with the Panther win over the Mounties 3-1.
Parma Western improves to 9-2-2 overall, and 3-1 in conference play. Northwest falls to 8-4-1.
