Dexter Stamping Company, LLC announced today that is expanding its metal stamping capabilities in Blackman Township.
Dexter Stamping Company is a global supplier of complex stampings for the auto industry supplying to Tier 1, 2 and 3 customers.
The project is expected to generate a total investment of $14.4 million and create 150 jobs, resulting in a $750,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Indiana.
“Dexter’s expansion here rather than in another state means good jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the state’s automotive sector,” said Jeff Mason, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction arm that administers programs and performs due diligence on behalf of the MSF.
“The decision by Dexter Stamping to invest in Michigan offers further evidence our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents,” said Mason.
The company plans to add approximately 80,000 square feet to make room for dry storage and value-added processes. The facility will also be expanded to accommodate the additional employees. Blackman Township has offered support to the project in the form of a 12-year property tax abatement.
“We are excited to keep a local company here in Jackson County, as well as the State of Michigan,” said Pete Jancek, supervisor of Blackman Township. “With the assistance of The Enterprise Group of Jackson and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to secure this expansion, Blackman Charter Township is thankful for the significant investment and the job creation that will occur as a result of this project.”
Tim Rogers, President and CEO of the Enterprise Group of Jackson said, “This is a significant win for Jackson County. I want to thank MEDC and Blackman Township for their efforts to keep this expansion in the Jackson area instead of having it go out of state.”
Dexter Stamping is located at 1013 Thorrez Road and will be expanding its current facility. The company began in 1955 as a tool and die shop. In 2010, the company moved to the former Wolverine Metal Specialties building in Blackman Township from Ann Arbor due to space limitations.
