Brayden Lape is congratulated by his team coach Blake Shelton after learning he is headed to the finale.

(December 6, 2022 9:00 PM)  Grass Lake’s Brayden Lape was announced as one of the top five contestants who will advance to next week’s Season 22 Finale of NBC’s The Voice.   Lape, 16, is a sophomore at Grass Lake High School.

Lape, the youngest singer in the competition, received the news during The Voice Live Semi-Final Top 8 Results Episode halfway through the live broadcast.  Brayden was the fourth finalist announced; the remaining four contestants sang once more for a chance at the Instant Save. Finalists were announced in no particular order.

Joining Brayden Lape in the Finale are Bryce Leatherwood, Morgan Myles, Bodie, and (with the Instant Save),  Omar Jose Cardona.

Last night in the semifinals, the top 8 contestants each performed a solo and a duet.  In a video segment,  Lape brought his mother to meet his coach Blake Shelton at practice before his performance of “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young.

Host Carson Daly announced competitors would sing duets inspired by the new Whitney Houston film biography, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”.  The movie, starring Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston opens in theaters on Christmas.  Brayden was joined by Bodie for his duet, an acoustic version of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”.

At the conclusion of the telecast, viewers were invited to vote for their favorite online or via the app, with the Top 5 of the remaining 8 singers advancing to the finals.

The winner of The Voice gets the title, $100,000, and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.
